Staff Assistant (Online Content)is a web designer / developer position. The role is responsible for designing,coding, deploying and supporting / troubleshooting multiple websites and theirdatabases.
These websites are used during military training exercises tosimulate news and current popular social media platforms. You will beresponsible for every aspect of the design and development from user experience(UX), ensuring user-
friendly design and clear navigation; to user interface(UI), ensuring the websites are visually appealing, and according to uniquespecifications within the secure, offline military exercise environment.
The JWC plans, prepares, and executes staticand distributed joint operational level training in support of WarfareDevelopment and Warfighting readiness.
The Media Simulation team is responsiblefor synchronising the delivery of the exercise information environment acrossall stakeholders and providing a realistic media environment for exercises.
TheStaff Assistant (Online Content) designs, develops, populates, maintains, andtroubleshoots the platforms to deliver online print and social media contentduring the planning and execution phases of multiple computer-
assistedexercises, contributing to the consistency and coherency of the exerciseinformation environment.
Branch Head(PAO Media Simulation)
Theincumbent's duties are :
Createsand maintains the online media simulation and information environment websitesin close consultation with the Information Environment Manager including print,social media, and OPFOR media websites.
Developswebsites to support the Exercise Information & Media Plan for multiple platforms,including International, Regional, National, and Local outlets with both printand social media products.
Coordinatesdaily with all stakeholders and actively participating in relevant meetings.
Designs,updates, and populates news and social media platforms using web contentmanagement software.
Administersthe social media content approval process including user training to ensure allcontent is in accordance with JWC exercise media guidelines, terms, andconditions.
Managesmedia platforms and quality control in addition to troubleshooting content andtechnical issues.
Createsonline media content library and manages archive for online media content.
Identifiesand projects trends in online media news delivery and proposes options to keepJWC current in JWC media simulation capability.
Providesinformation expertise / input as needed during MEL / MIL Strategy, IncidentDevelopment, and Scripting Workshops.
Providesinstruction, advice, and assistance to website users, augmented scripters, andthe JWC Multimedia Specialists.
Advisesscripters on coordinating potential information activities and providesalternative solutions and guidance to requests that do not contribute to theevent’s training objectives.
Servesas the Online Media Content Manager during exercises (Phase IIIB) and providesdynamic synchronization of Response Cell input into the online environment.
Role-playsjournalist, engages with Training Audiences, and attends exercise pressconferences.
Servesas a Subject Matter Expert on online media publishing.
Participatesin relevant meetings, conferences, and supported events, both internally andexternally within NATO’s area of operations as tasked by the branch head.
Professional / Experience
Previousprofessional experience in organisational web management, employing digitaljournalism / social media techniques and platforms, specifically online contentmanagement systems such as Joomla!, WordPress or Drupal on Microsoft Windowsservers.
Previousexperience developing websites using HTML, CSS and PHP.
Previousexperience designing and managing content platforms involving high volumes ofdata.
Education / Training
HigherSecondary education and intermediate vocational training in information science, managementinformation systems, information technology, digital publishing or relateddiscipline which might lead to a formalqualification with 2 years experience, or
Secondaryeducation and completed advanced vocational training in that discipline leadingto a professional qualification or professional accreditation with 4 years postrelated experience.
Professional / Experience
Experienceusing professional camera equipment.
Experienceusing graphic design and video editing software.
PreviousPublic Affairs experience in an International Organisation.
Experiencewith media asset management software.
Education / Training
University degree orequivalent in a multimedia-related subject
ATTRIBUTES / COMPETENCIES
Personal Attributes : Works with minimal supervision withinown field. Considerable maturity and professional judgment is required tofacilitate and execute media simulation services during exercises and trainingevents and is regularly required to use tact and persuasion when dealing withsenior officials.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills arerequired. Good health and the ability to cope with stress. There is arequirement to work under pressure within specified deadlines with highworkload and some irregular working hours.
Must be able to travel on temporaryduty. Ability to work as a productive member of a small team.
Professional Contacts : Coordinates closely with JWCInformation Environment Managers and other exercise functional planners.
Supports PAO as required. Maintains external contacts to stay up-to-date withdevelopments in his / her field.
Contribution to Objectives : Incumbent isdirectly responsible for the design, creation, management and delivery ofprofessional and realistic multimedia simulation platforms and their content.
The design and delivery of the online media environment is a critical elementof the overall information environment, and is essential to the JWC’s abilityto deliver high-
quality, realistic training to its Training Audiences. TheJWC’s media simulation capability is unique within NATO and is highly demandedby the NATO Command Structure, NATO Force Structure and component commanders asthey train to face today’s threat environment.
JWC media simulation productsare highly visible, and have the potential to showcase the culmination ofplanning work at all levels, within the JWC and externally.
The work is normallyperformed in a typical office environment.
NOTE : The work both oral and written in thispost and in this headquarters as a whole is conducted mainly in English.
