There is a position as PhD available at the Department of Sociology and Political Science, NTNU, in Political Communication.
It is a temporary position for a period of three years, which can be prolonged to four years with 25% teaching obligations.

D. The position is connected to the PhD-program in Political Science or Sociology at the Faculty of Social and Educational Sciences.
The candidate will join the exciting and growing Department of Sociology and Political Science (ISS) at NTNU. The department has a wide range of research areas such as sociology, political science, sports science, media, communications and information technology.
The department has approximately 80 employees and 11 study programmes. ISS is characterised by strong disciplines in social science, with the emphasis on sociology and political science, which contributes to multidisciplinary study programmes and-

The successful candidate will join the multidisciplinary Elections, Values, and Political Communication’ research group (consisting of professors, post-
doctoral research fellows, and PhD students), which provides, for example, monthly research colloquia, research collaboration opportunities, access to international researcher networks, and research workshops.
An annual research allowance will facilitate the successful candidate’s professional development (). The candidate is expected to contribute actively to the activities of the research group and its visibility internally and externally.
The PhD candidate will be expected to conduct research in the field of Political Communication Research, with a specific focus on the dynamics of agenda-
and frame-building in competitive public discourse. All proposals within this field will be considered, but candidates with proposals that relate to quantitative content analysis of media and online content and / or quantitative surveys and / or (quantitative or qualitative) interviews with policy decision-
makers or journalists will be looked upon favorably. Residence in Trondheim is a requirement of the position.

The requirement for the position is a completed master’s degree in political science, social science, and / or media science.
Qualifications in the study of public opinion, political journalism, quantitative methods, and / or political media / online content are desirable.
Personal qualifications such as independence, initiative, cooperative spirit, and motivation to contribute to an including work milieu will be ascribed high importance.
Applicants must have a strong academic record from their previous studies, and must have a weighted average grade for the last two years of their master's or equivalent education (equivalent to 120 credits) of B or higher in terms of NTNU's grading scale.
Applicants with no letter grades from previous studies must have an equally good academic foundation. Applicants who are unable to meet these criteria may be admitted only if they can document that they are particularly suitable candidates for education leading to a PhD degree.
Candidates that are in the completion of their master degrees can apply, and will be considered, but will not be employed before they have completed their master degree.
Salary and Working Conditions
The PhD position is paid according to the national salary scheme, from gross NOK 436 900 per year, of which 2 % is deducted for the State Pension Scheme.

PhD project sketch : The project description should form the foundation for evaluation of admission to PhD training at the faculty.
The project description should outline the titles, main research question(s), relevant literature and proposed methods, potentially including preliminary data sources for 3-
4 articles that will constitute a thesis. The description should also include a brief introduction that outlines the project and its contribution to the field.
If the proposed thesis is a monograph, then the description should include all of the above information and brief descriptions of the chapter content.
The final project description shall be accepted at the latest six months after admission for the admission to be valid.
Publications : Joint work will be evaluated. If it is difficult to identify the contributions from individuals in a joint piece of work, applicants should enclose a short descriptive summary of what he / she contributed to the work.
